In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism states that the opening of this recycling yard has made an important step in improving the system of separate collection and recycling of waste in the area of this local community.

The project was implemented through joint cooperation and financial and technical support of the City of Konjic, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and the operators of the Ekopak and ZEOS eco-systems.

In addition to Minister Pozder, the opening of the recycling yard was also attended by the Mayor of Konjic, Osman Ćatić, the Director of Ekopak, Amela Hrbat, the Director of ZEOS, Emil Šehić, the Assistant Director of the ZEOS Eco-System, Elma Babić-Džihanić, and the Director of the PUC "Standard" Konjic, Samir Memić, who will manage the recycling yard.

In the recycling yard located at Donje selo bb in Konjic, the following can be disposed of free of charge:

·       Bulky waste

·       Car tires

·       Construction waste

·       Small electronic waste

·       Large electronic waste and televisions

On this occasion, the importance of joint action of institutions, the local community and system operators on the establishment of infrastructure that enables citizens to handle waste in a simpler and more responsible way was emphasized.

"This is an example of cooperation in which everyone got involved and contributed, the Federation of BiH, the City of Konjic and the system operators. It is precisely such projects that we want to develop throughout the Federation of BiH. The recycling yard is not just a matter of environmental protection. It is part of a wider story about the circular economy, in which waste ceases to be just a problem and becomes a resource that can be reused and returned to economic flows", said Minister Pozder.

The Ministry states that it is important that such infrastructure is being developed in Konjic, a city with significant tourist and economic potential. The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism has set the improvement of the separate waste collection system and the development of recycling infrastructure as one of its priorities.

The

new Federal Waste Management Plan, adopted by the Government of the Federation of BiH in June this year, envisages a gradual transition from a system that primarily relies on waste disposal to a model that prioritizes waste prevention, reuse and recycling.

One of the goals that this plan aims to achieve is that every local community in the Federation of BiH has at least one recycling yard, i.e. available infrastructure that will enable citizens to separate and hand over waste in an appropriate manner.

"It is not enough to adopt plans and regulations, we must provide citizens with infrastructure. That is why it is important for us to bring recycling yards and other systems for separate waste collection closer to people and local communities", said Minister Pozder. As part of today's event, vehicle keys for the waste management system were also handed over, the procurement of which was jointly financed by the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH and the City of Konjic.

The opening of the recycling yard in Konjic is part of a wider process of improving the separate waste collection system in the Federation of BiH. During the previous period, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, in cooperation with system operators and local communities, launched several projects that include 'green islands', the procurement of equipment and the development of infrastructure for separate collection and recycling.

According to data for 2025, packaging waste operators handed over 43,048 tons of packaging waste for recycling, while electrical and electronic waste system operators recycled a total of 9,100 tons of this type of waste.

At the same time, the data show that the vast majority of municipal waste in the Federation of BiH is still disposed of, which is why the development of infrastructure for separate collection and recycling is one of the key directions of waste management system reform.

On this occasion, Minister Pozder, Mayor Ćatić, Director of Ekopak Hrbat and Assistant Director of the ZEOS Eco-System Babić-Džihanić jointly planted thuja trees along the fence of the recycling yard, symbolically marking the beginning of the new space and a joint commitment to creating a cleaner and more sustainable Konjic, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced.
